Vegan Friendly Restaurants near Harrisburg, Pa

If you’re like me, when you go to a new city, you head to Google to search such and such type of food (vegan, Italian, gluten free, etc) and the city name. It’s always a bonus when the guess work has been done and you can find a list with a review by someone who has actually been been there. I want to share 5 restaurants that I frequent and by frequent, I mean mostly get delivery from 🤣 This list is not in any specific order.

1) The Vegetable Hunter (all vegan) The Vegetable Hunter has 2 locations, Carlisle and Harrisburg. Per Google, they offer “vegan plates, bowls & tacos, plus housemate small-batch craft beer, in a homey, art-filled cafe.” My favorite from there is the “pulled pork” sandwich or the jammed Mac and cheese pita plate. They also have yummy desserts.

2) Tomato Pie Cafe (vegan friendly options) Tomato Pie Cafe has 2 locations, Harrisburg and Lititz. I’ve only visited the Harrisburg location and more recently have been ordering off of Grubhub. My favorite recently is the cilantro lime bowl. I also love the carrot fries. They often have vegan desserts as well.

3) Harvest Seasonal Grille (vegan friendly options) The Harvest Seasonal Grille has several locations with the closest being Harrisburg and Lancaster. They have a separate plant based vegan and are good if you specify what you want as they sometimes have a vegan and non vegan version of a dish.

4) Knead Slice Shop (vegan friendly options) Knead Slice Shop has 2 locations, one that is open all the time and another that is located at The Broad Street Market. The location at the Broad Street Market is open Thursday through Saturday with a limited menu. Below are photos of a visit there yesterday. I got the vegan grandma’s pizza and vegan garlic knots 👏 The only negative about this place is there’s no delivery and they are not on any delivery apps.

5. Mellow Minded Cafe (vegan options) Mellow Minded Cafe has items clearly marked on their menu and they are very good about helping you veganize dishes. My favorite is the VLT (a BLT that uses tempeh and vegan mayo). Fun fact- they offer military discount if you are eligible.

Have you frequented any of these restaurants in Harrisburg and its surrounding areas? If so, let me know! I know there are a lot more vegan friendly restaurants in the area, these are just a few of my favorites.

Merry Christmas 2021 🎅

Good morning and Merry Christmas to everyone.  We slept in until about 8am then came out to do presents for the kids from momma and Dada and Santa. We are going to my parents later and to my in-laws this evening.

I hope everyone has a great day with their loved ones. Stay tuned this upcoming week for some new blogs 🎄

8 Last Minute Gift Ideas

With Christmas only 2 days away, you may now be in panic mode if you still haven’t finished your shopping. Don’t worry, I’ve got you covered with a few ideas that’ll be well received and easily accomplished before Christmas day.

  1. At Home Paint Party – Head to your local Dollar tree craft section or your local craft store and pick up some small canvases, mini easels, paint brushes and some paint. This pairs well if you pick out a fun YouTube tutorial you can follow along with. We did this for my sister’s Bachelorette party and it was a lot of fun. This idea could vary in pricing depending where you get your materials. There are of course kits on Amazon but it’s likely too late to receive them before Christmas.
  2. Recipes In A Jar – Print or write out your favorite recipes on nice stationary and put in a pretty jar or vase. This would be especially nice if you’re sharing a family recipe or personal recipe.
  3. Bill Payment – Hear me out, practical gifts should not be overlooked. If you’re looking for a gift for someone you know that is always late on their cell phone or water bill, etc., offer to pay a portion of it to help them out. I wouldn’t recommend doing this for just an acquaintance but for a close family, it might be more well received.
  4. Amazon Gift Cards – This may be a fall back for some but for others, it’s 💯 what they want. It shows you are thinking of them, but allows them to decide what they want, when they want it.
  5. Uber Eats/ Door Dash/ Grub Hub Gift Card – This one is pretty self explanatory.
  6. Food – If you know someone loves the casserole or lasagna you bring to every event or get together, make them a pan they can freeze to use on busy nights when they don’t feel like cooking.
  7. Planned Day Out – Make an itinerary and plan a day out for you and your gift recipient. Include breakfast, maybe a museum or park, shopping, etc. They’ll love that you took the time to schedule a day to spend together.
  8. Regift – Normalize regifting. Do you have something that was given to you that you never opened or used that someone else might enjoy? There’s no point in keeping something you’re never going to use.

Hopefully one of these suggestions help if you still need to get a gift. Let me know! Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays 😊

5 Ways You Can Still Volunteer For Your Favorite Cause With A Chronic Illness

This post was originally posted on Instagram in May 2020. It has been slightly modified.

Do you have a cause that is near and dear to your heart? Something you feel strongly about and want to support? It can be very challenging to feel like you have enough energy (spoons) to give any of your time away to things outside of self care and at home responsibilities.

If you are like me, you have things that you want to do to help maintain some normalcy amidst your chronic illness. I volunteer with an amazing organization called The Lancaster Farm Sanctuary. Now that I have 2 little ones, I am not at a point in my life where I can regularly go and actually volunteer at the farm Sanctuary. My way of helping right now is by sending emails/cards thanking those who donate to the organization. It allows me to stay involved and I still feel good helping 💚

So, how can you help your favorite organizations?!

1) Offer to send thank you notes to supporters who have donated to the charity you want to support

2) Make phone calls (reference phone calls for animal adoptions,  coordination phone calls for events, solicitation for donation)

3) Share the organizations posts on social media, even if you are not even to help in person, sharing their posts and helping them gain exposure and a broader audience could bring in more donations,  supporters and volunteers

4) Volunteer your time during an event. If they have a booth set up during an event,  offer to take a shift and give information about the organization out to event attendees

5) Ask your organization of choice if there are things you can help with from home such as sending emails, online filing, fundraising,  event planning, etc.

I know it can feel overwhelming having a Chronic Illness (or multiple), but if you are interested and feel like you have some time and a spare spoon every once in a while,  reach out to an organization you support to see how you could possibly help.

I hope this post was helpful for you. What organizations do you all volunteer with?
